ACG Orders 75 Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft for 2032-2035

Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has finalized a firm order for 75 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, securing delivery slots between 2032 and 2035 in the largest single transaction in the lessor’s nearly 40-year history.

The agreement, announced in a press release on October 16, 2026, brings the Newport Beach, California-based company’s total historical commitments for the A320neo Family to 190 aircraft. The order provides ACG with conversion rights across the aircraft family, allowing the lessor to adapt its portfolio to shifting airline demand over the next decade.

Securing narrowbody capacity into the 2030s

The 75-aircraft commitment significantly expands ACG’s backlog with the European manufacturer. Following this transaction, the lessor holds 115 outstanding orders for the A320neo Family. As of June 30, 2026, ACG reported 118 A320neo Family aircraft in its active fleet.

Thomas Baker, Chief Executive Officer and President of Aviation Capital Group, stated that the company’s portfolio strategy focuses on new-technology narrowbody aircraft that are most in demand with airlines globally. He characterized the record order as a statement of confidence in the long-term future of air travel and in the company’s role as a conduit between airlines, aircraft, and capital.

The A320neo Family offers a minimum 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, along with a 50 percent noise reduction compared to previous-generation single-aisle aircraft. The program has secured more than 20,400 orders globally.

Rob Downes, Chief OEM Officer at ACG, noted that the aircraft family remains highly sought-after among airline customers for both replacement and growth requirements. The new order extends the lessor’s delivery pipeline into the mid-2030s.

The relationship between the two companies spans nearly two decades. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus, highlighted that the partnership dates back to 2007 when ACG placed its first order with the manufacturer.

Corporate restructuring and leasing market demand

Founded in 1989, ACG is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Century Corporation. The lessor manages a portfolio of over 500 aircraft leased to approximately 85 to 90 airlines across 50 countries. On August 12, 2026, the company reported second-quarter financial results showing total revenues of $668 million for the first half of the year, total assets of $14.6 billion, and available liquidity of $6.6 billion. The company also recently relocated its global headquarters to a modernized facility in Newport Beach on June 15, 2026.

The record Airbus order arrives during a period of significant corporate transition for the lessor. On August 3, 2026, Tokyo Century Corporation announced a binding memorandum of understanding to transfer a 50 percent ownership interest in ACG’s direct parent company to ITOCHU Corporation for approximately $1.9 billion. The transaction, expected to close in November 2026 subject to regulatory approvals, will shift ACG to a 50:50 joint management structure between the two Japanese conglomerates.

The aircraft leasing sector is currently experiencing robust demand driven by a global shortage of new aircraft and sustained post-pandemic air travel demand. Lessors are placing large orders to secure delivery slots well into the next decade. ACG competes with major independent lessors such as AerCap, SMBC Aviation Capital, Avolon, and Air Lease Corporation.

AirPro News analysis

We view the timing of this record order as a direct reflection of ACG’s impending joint ownership structure under Tokyo Century and ITOCHU. The strategic partnership with ITOCHU is explicitly aimed at scaling ACG’s combined leasing business into one of the world’s top five by fleet size. By locking in 75 delivery slots in the highly constrained 2032 to 2035 window, ACG is executing on that growth mandate before the acquisition even closes.

Furthermore, securing A320neo Family positions into the mid-2030s is a defensive necessity in the current leasing environment. With Airbus production slots largely sold out for the remainder of the decade, lessors without guaranteed future pipelines risk losing market share to competitors who can offer airlines guaranteed lift. This order ensures ACG will have the industry’s most liquid asset class available to offer customers during a period when narrowbody capacity is expected to remain tight.

Lufthansa A350-1000 Enters Service December 2026 on Tokyo Route

Lufthansa Group will introduce its first Airbus A350-1000 into commercial service on December 3, 2026, operating an inaugural passenger flight from Munich (MUC) to Tokyo/Haneda (HND).

The aircraft, registered as D-AIFA and named “Deutschland,” will serve as the new flagship for the German carrier’s long-haul fleet. In a press release issued on October 15, 2026, Lufthansa confirmed the aircraft will be ferried from Airbus facilities in Toulouse, France, to Munich in mid-November 2026. The delivery introduces the airline’s new Allegris cabin configuration across all four classes and marks a major milestone in the company’s fleet modernization program.

Istanbul Aviation Forum, the meeting point of the global aviation industry, April 27-28, 2027

Cabin configuration and operational efficiency

The Airbus A350-1000 measures 73.80 meters in length, making it seven meters longer than the Airbus A350-900 currently operated by the airline. This extended fuselage allows Lufthansa to install a highly premium-heavy configuration totaling 300 passenger seats. The layout includes three to four First Class seats, comprising two single suites and one “Suite Plus” designed for dual occupancy. The Business Class cabin features 49 seats, eight of which are fully enclosed suites. The aircraft also includes 35 Premium Economy Class seats and 212 Economy Class seats.

According to the airline, this configuration represents a 40 percent increase in Business and Premium Economy seating compared to its previous flagship aircraft. The A350-1000 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines and utilizes advanced composite materials for 50 percent of its construction. These design elements contribute to a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.

“We are proud that the Airbus A350-1000, Airbus’s most modern long-haul aircraft, is coming to Munich. The introduction of the new A350-1000 is part of the largest fleet modernization in the history of the Lufthansa Group and a key driver on the path to more sustainability. Our new flagship features 40 percent more Business and Premium Economy seats. To put it simply: The A350-1000 strengthens our premium hub in Munich.”

The statement was provided by Heiko Reitz, Member of the Lufthansa Airlines Board and Hub Manager Munich.

Expanding the Japanese market and future routes

The selection of Tokyo/Haneda for the inaugural A350-1000 flight aligns with a broader strategic focus on the Japanese market. On October 6, 2026, Lufthansa Group announced a significant expansion of its services to Japan for the Summer 2027 schedule. This expansion includes daily flights from Frankfurt to Tokyo-Narita and the resumption of the Frankfurt-Nagoya route. In total, the group plans to offer up to 50 flights per week to Japan.

Following the initial deployment to Tokyo, Lufthansa plans to introduce the A350-1000 on additional long-haul routes. The airline stated that the aircraft will begin serving Shanghai and Singapore in late 2026 and early 2027 as more airframes are delivered and integrated into the active fleet.

Lufthansa’s widebody transition strategy

The arrival of the A350-1000 is the culmination of a procurement strategy initiated several years ago to replace older, less efficient four-engine aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400 and the Airbus A340. Lufthansa Group announced its initial order for 10 Airbus A350-1000s on March 2, 2023. The company subsequently expanded this commitment on December 20, 2024, ordering an additional five airframes to bring the total firm order to 15.

All 15 aircraft are scheduled for delivery by 2030. The initial 10 aircraft will be based at the Munich hub. The A350-1000 is Airbus’s largest twin-engine widebody and competes directly with the Boeing 777-300ER and the upcoming Boeing 777X in the high-capacity, long-range market segment.

The delivery of D-AIFA carries additional historical significance for the operator and the manufacturer. It marks the 700th aircraft Airbus has delivered to the Lufthansa Group, which remains the manufacturer’s largest customer worldwide with 770 total historical orders. The inaugural A350-1000 is also the seventh aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet to feature a special 100th-anniversary livery.

AirPro News analysis

Lufthansa’s configuration of the A350-1000 highlights a definitive shift in the carrier’s revenue strategy for its Munich hub. By increasing Business and Premium Economy capacity by 40 percent over previous flagships, we see Lufthansa aggressively targeting high-yield corporate and premium leisure traffic on trunk routes to Asia-Pacific. The decision to debut the aircraft on the Tokyo/Haneda route rather than a North America destination underscores the high premium demand currently characterizing the Japan market.

Operationally, the transition from quad-engine A340s and 747-400s to the A350-1000 provides a massive step-change in unit costs. The 25 percent reduction in fuel burn directly improves route profitability while helping the airline meet increasingly stringent European sustainability mandates. As the Boeing 777X program continues to face certification delays, Airbus’s ability to deliver the A350-1000 allows Lufthansa to execute its fleet modernization and premium cabin upgrades without further schedule disruptions.

Citi and Credendo Close USD 328M IndiGo Aircraft Financing

Citi and Credendo finalize a USD 328M ECA-backed facility for eight IndiGo Airbus aircraft via India’s GIFT IFSC.

Citi and Credendo Close USD 328M IndiGo Aircraft Financing

Citigroup Inc. and Belgian export credit agency Credendo have closed a USD 328 million financing facility for eight Airbus aircraft destined for Indian carrier IndiGo. The transaction marks the first export credit agency-backed aircraft financing structured through India‘s Gujarat International Finance Tec-City International Financial Services Centre.

Announced in a joint press release on October 13, 2026, the deal covers six Airbus A321s and two Airbus A320s. The agreement represents Credendo’s inaugural aviation financing transaction and provides IndiGo with a new channel of international liquidity as the airline shifts its long-term fleet strategy toward direct ownership.

Istanbul Aviation Forum, the meeting point of the global aviation industry, April 27-28, 2027

Structuring through GIFT City

The financing was executed through IndiGo’s subsidiary, InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Private Limited. The Indian government has prioritized the development of the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC) to position the country as a global aviation leasing hub capable of competing with established centers like Ireland and Singapore.

The GIFT IFSC framework permits cross-border aviation finance transactions in freely convertible foreign currency while remaining integrated within India’s legal and regulatory structure. This allows lessors to operate at international standards with tax-efficient provisions.

Citi acted as the sole mandated arranger, Export Credit Agency (ECA) coordinator, and sole lender for the transaction. K Balasubramanian, Citi’s India CEO and banking head, stated that the government incentives introduced for GIFT City have helped position India as an attractive destination for aircraft leasing.

“By combining Citi’s cross-border aviation and ECA financing expertise with Credendo’s credit insurance and IndiGo’s GIFT IFSC platform, we have delivered a first-of-its-kind solution,” Balasubramanian said.

Riyaz Peermohamed, Chief Aircraft Acquisition & Financing Officer at IndiGo, noted that the transaction demonstrates the potential of the GIFT IFSC to bring together international banks and export credit agencies to create innovative financing solutions for Indian aviation.

Credendo’s aviation market entry

The USD 328 million facility marks the first time Credendo has insured an aviation financing deal. Credendo operates as Belgium’s export credit agency and ranks as the fourth-largest credit insurance group in Europe. In 2025, the agency insured international trade worth 91 billion euros and earned 438 million euros in premium income.

Frank Vanwingh, group deputy CEO at Credendo, described the transaction as a significant milestone and the first step in a broader initiative aimed at enhancing support for the Belgian aviation industry.

“As our inaugural aircraft finance transaction, it demonstrates our ambition to become a long-term partner for Belgian aviation stakeholders seeking access to international opportunities and innovative financing structures,” Vanwingh said.

IndiGo’s shifting fleet strategy

IndiGo, formally InterGlobe Aviation Limited, operates as India’s largest airline by network and fleet size. The carrier currently manages a fleet of more than 430 aircraft and executes approximately 2,200 daily flights. During fiscal year 2026, the airline transported more than 123 million passengers.

The new financing aligns with a strategic shift in IndiGo’s capital structure. In June 2026, airline management outlined plans to increase the proportion of its total fleet under direct ownership to between 30 and 40 percent by fiscal year 2030. Historically, the carrier has relied heavily on the operating lease model, which accounted for 75 percent of its fleet in fiscal 2026.

Establishing the GIFT IFSC subsidiary allows IndiGo to diversify its long-term funding sources to support this transition toward higher direct ownership.

AirPro News analysis

This transaction serves as a critical proof of concept for India’s GIFT City initiative. Securing ECA-backed financing through the domestic IFSC framework validates the jurisdiction to international lenders who have historically preferred structuring Indian airline leases through Dublin or Singapore. For IndiGo, tapping into European export credit liquidity lowers the cost of capital required to execute its aggressive shift toward direct aircraft ownership. As the carrier moves to own up to 40 percent of a fleet projected to exceed 500 aircraft by the end of the decade, establishing reliable, tax-efficient pipelines to international debt markets is a structural necessity.
