Garuda Indonesia Revenue Rises 13.2% in First Nine Months of 2026

PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) reported a 13.2 percent year-on-year revenue increase to US$2.71 billion for the first nine months of 2026, driven by strong non-airline business growth that helped offset a 42.9 percent surge in jet fuel costs.

In a press release issued on October 30, 2026, the Indonesian flag carrier announced an operating profit of US$97.2 million and a 3.0 percent narrowing of its net loss to US$179.3 million. The results highlight the airline’s ongoing financial restructuring under newly appointed leadership and the strategic backing of state holding company PT Danantara Asset Management.

Financial performance and fuel pressures

The global aviation industry has faced significant cost pressures throughout 2026 due to elevated jet fuel prices, which Garuda Indonesia attributed to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and volatility in global energy markets. The Group reported fuel expenditures totaling US$309.8 million for the nine-month period.

Despite the fuel cost increase, the company maintained cost discipline in other areas. Operating expenses excluding fuel rose by 3.1 percent. The Group carried 16.7 million passengers during the period, with the mainline Garuda Indonesia operation transporting 7.7 million passengers and low-cost subsidiary PT Citilink Indonesia carrying 8.9 million.

Fleet reactivation efforts also progressed. As of September 2026, the Group operated 106 serviceable aircraft, comprising 64 for Garuda Indonesia and 42 for Citilink. This represents an increase of 24 active aircraft compared to the same period in 2025.

Leadership transition and strategic integration

The financial results follow a recent change in executive leadership. On October 8, 2026, Garuda Indonesia held an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders and appointed Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro as the new President Director and Chief Executive Officer, replacing Glenny H. Kairupan.

Oentoro emphasized the importance of diversifying the company’s revenue streams to insulate the core airline operation from external shocks.

“Strengthening our core airline operations remains essential, but our future growth must also come from making better use of the capabilities and opportunities across the Group. The increasing contribution from our non-airline businesses demonstrates how a more integrated and commercially focused business ecosystem can support our financial recovery.”

Non-airline business units emerged as a primary growth driver for the Group, with revenue in this segment increasing by 31.3 percent year-on-year to reach US$322.8 million.

State backing and MRO expansion

Garuda Indonesia has been undergoing a massive financial restructuring following the COVID-19 pandemic. A central component of this recovery is the financial support from the Indonesian sovereign wealth fund and state holding company Danantara. In late 2025, Danantara injected approximately US$1.3 billion into the airline and extended a US$405 million shareholder loan to fund fleet maintenance and reactivation.

The Group is now leveraging that capital to consolidate its aviation services ecosystem. In early October 2026, Garuda Indonesia announced plans to regain a 93.2 percent majority stake in its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) subsidiary, PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF AeroAsia), through a rights issue supported by Danantara.

The MRO sector has proven highly lucrative for the Group amid global supply chain constraints. GMF AeroAsia recorded a 42.4 percent increase in aircraft maintenance revenue from external customers during the first nine months of 2026.

“With Danantara’s support, we are focused on improving productivity, unlocking greater value from our existing assets and capabilities, and ensuring that each business contributes more effectively to the Group’s overall performance,” Oentoro stated.

AirPro News analysis

The first nine months of 2026 demonstrate a clear strategic pivot for Garuda Indonesia. By aggressively expanding its non-airline revenue, particularly through GMF AeroAsia, the Group is building a structural hedge against the jet fuel volatility that continues to pressure airline margins globally. We view the planned reconsolidation of GMF AeroAsia as a critical move. With global MRO capacity constrained and airlines extending the life of older airframes, controlling a major regional heavy maintenance facility provides Garuda with both operational reliability for its own fleet reactivation and a high-margin revenue stream from third-party carriers. The US$1.7 billion in combined equity and loan support from Danantara has effectively transitioned Garuda from a survival narrative to a growth phase focused on aviation services.

Integrating connectivity into the clinical chain

TransMedics operates a specialized logistics network for organ transplantation. During transport missions, the company utilizes its proprietary Organ Care System (OCS) to continuously monitor donor organs in flight. The OCS generates a continuous stream of clinical data that must be evaluated by medical professionals. This process requires reliable, high-performance inflight connectivity to transmit the data to medical teams on the ground with minimal latency.

Andre Costa, vice president of global logistics at TransMedics, emphasized the operational requirement in the company statement.

“Every flight we operate carries the potential to save a life, which makes continuous, real-time visibility into each organ’s status during transport mission-critical.”

Costa noted that the company selected the Gogo system for its reliable performance as well as the cybersecurity, system redundancy, and active monitoring provided by the manufacturer.

LEO technology and fleet implementation

The Gogo Galileo HDX system is powered by the Eutelsat OneWeb enterprise-grade LEO satellite network. The network is designed to deliver global, high-speed, low-latency connectivity specifically tailored for business aviation. The hardware features an electronically steered antenna (ESA), which provides a compact, lightweight, and low-power solution suitable for light jets like the Embraer Phenom 300E. The system is capable of supporting multiple simultaneous applications, including cloud-based monitoring, video communications, and operational data exchange.

Installations on the TransMedics fleet are already scheduled. By mid-2027, the Galileo HDX system is expected to be operating across the entire 22-aircraft United States fleet. Following the domestic rollout, TransMedics plans to extend the connectivity capability to its European fleet in 2028.

Gogo chief executive officer Chris Moore highlighted the changing role of connectivity in specialized flight operations.

“Business aviation supports far more than executive travel: it enables critical missions that communities rely on every day. TransMedics is a powerful example of that. When you’re transporting donor organs, connectivity isn’t a convenience; it’s part of the mission.”

Expanding LEO adoption in business aviation

The TransMedics agreement follows a series of recent milestones for the Gogo Galileo HDX program. On October 15, 2026, Textron Aviation announced that the system had received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for Cessna Citation aircraft, making Textron the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to offer the option. Shortly after, on October 29, 2026, United States-based charter operator Jet Excellence announced plans to equip its entire fleet of Cessna Citation X aircraft with the HDX system.

According to industry reporting by AviNews, medical-mission operators are increasingly treating inflight connectivity as an extension of the clinical chain. This operational shift is driving demand for LEO-based business aviation connectivity toward mission-critical applications, expanding the market beyond traditional executive transport.

AirPro News analysis

The TransMedics contract represents a significant validation of LEO satellite connectivity in the light jet segment. Historically, high-speed satellite internet was restricted to large-cabin business jets due to the size, weight, and power requirements of traditional radomes and mechanically steered antennas. The advent of compact ESA technology allows operators of light jets, such as the Embraer Phenom 300E, to access broadband speeds globally without prohibitive performance penalties.

More importantly, this deal illustrates the evolution of inflight connectivity from a passenger luxury to a certified medical data conduit. By integrating the aircraft’s data link directly into the clinical chain of custody for organ transport, TransMedics is establishing a new standard for medical logistics. For connectivity providers like Gogo, this shift opens a lucrative and highly stable market segment among special-mission operators who require guaranteed uptime and robust cybersecurity for life-saving operations.

Textron Aviation Q3 2026 Results: Citation Deliveries Rise 21%

Textron Inc. reported a 21 percent year-over-year increase in Cessna Citation business jet deliveries for the third quarter of 2026, driving Textron Aviation revenues to $1.7 billion and prompting the manufacturer to raise its full-year earnings guidance.

In a press release issued on October 29, 2026, the Providence, Rhode Island-based company detailed strong continued demand in the business aviation sector. This jet demand offset a slight softening in commercial turboprop deliveries and lower military helicopter revenues at its Bell division.

Business jet demand drives aviation growth

Textron Aviation, headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, recorded $1.7 billion in third-quarter revenue, representing a $201 million or 14 percent increase over the same period in 2025. The segment delivered 51 Cessna Citation jets during the quarter, up from 42 in the third quarter of 2025. Commercial turboprop deliveries fell to 32 units, down from 39 units the previous year.

Despite the drop in turboprop volume, Textron Aviation segment profit rose by $7 million to $179 million, a 4 percent year-over-year increase. The company attributed part of this financial growth to its aftermarket parts and services division, which saw revenues increase by $49 million in the third quarter of 2026 due to higher volume and pricing. The aviation segment ended the quarter with an $8.0 billion backlog.

Bell revenues dip amid military volume shifts

The company’s rotorcraft division, Bell, reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $933 million, a 9 percent or $93 million decline year-over-year. Bell delivered 29 commercial Helicopters in the quarter, down slightly from 30 in the third quarter of 2025. Textron attributed the revenue decline primarily to lower military volume on the MV-75 Cheyenne program.

Recent legislative actions are expected to support future defense revenue for the division. In October 2026, the United States Army received Congressional approval for a funding request related to the MV-75 Cheyenne program. This approval led to associated contract modifications that obligate funding for Bell. The division maintained a backlog of $7.6 billion at the end of the third quarter.

Textron Systems reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $360 million, representing a 16 percent or $50 million increase over the same period in 2025.

Textron’s broader market footprint

Textron Inc. operates a global network of aircraft, defense, industrial, and finance businesses. Its aviation segment manufactures the Cessna and Beechcraft brands, which together account for more than half of all general aviation aircraft worldwide.

Across all divisions, total Textron Inc. revenue for the third quarter of 2026 reached $3.8 billion, a 4 percent or $149 million increase year-over-year. The company reported an adjusted Earnings Per Share (EPS) of $1.76, up from $1.55 in the third quarter of 2025. Based on these results, Textron Inc. raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $6.55 to $6.65.

AirPro News analysis

The divergence between Textron’s jet and turboprop deliveries highlights a bifurcated market in late 2026. While corporate flight departments and high-net-worth individuals continue to absorb Cessna Citation production slots, the commercial turboprop sector appears to be cooling. We view the $8.0 billion aviation backlog as a strong buffer against near-term economic volatility. The newly approved MV-75 Cheyenne funding will likely be critical to stabilizing Bell’s defense revenues in upcoming quarters as the company navigates shifting military procurement cycles.
