Universal Aviation Rebrands as Affinity Aviation at NBAA 2026

Universal Aviation, a global Fixed Base Operator (FBO) and ground support network with more than 65 years of history, has rebranded as Affinity Aviation. The Evans Family Company unveiled the new corporate identity on October 19, 2026, at the NBAA-BACE convention in Las Vegas, signaling a strategic shift alongside major infrastructure investments across its international footprint.

The rebranding marks a structural and visual update for the business aviation service provider, which operates more than 75 locations across over 20 countries. According to a press release issued by the company, the transition to the Affinity Aviation brand will roll out in phases throughout 2027, encompassing digital channels, operational communications, facility signage, and uniforms.

Strategic positioning and brand transition

The decision to rebrand stems from a desire to align the company’s visual identity with its expanding operational scope and customer service philosophy. The rebranding process was led by Sarah Evans, Principal of the Evans Family Office, who incorporated input from leaders and employees across the organization to define the positioning for the network’s next chapter.

“Affinity represents where we are taking this business next. We are building on everything that has made this company successful while pushing ourselves to keep getting better,” Greg Evans, Managing Principal of the Evans Family Office, stated in the release.

He added that the company is focused on raising safety standards, investing in personnel, and expanding general aviation infrastructure where customers require it. The new brand mark features an aircraft intended to represent the customer journey, paired with a supporting hand symbolizing personal care and expertise. Sarah Evans noted that the Affinity name emerged from the concept that exceptional ground support is inherently personal, requiring an understanding of the specific mission and bringing the right personnel together.

Global infrastructure expansion

The rebranding announcement coincides with a period of significant infrastructure investment for the ground support provider. Affinity Aviation is actively expanding its physical footprint in several key international business aviation markets to accommodate growing demand and larger aircraft types.

In Mexico, the company recently opened a 362,000-square-foot FBO and hangar complex in Guadalajara. This facility, which includes a 51,700-square-foot general aviation hangar, was completed ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to accommodate anticipated increases in business aircraft traffic.

In Europe, construction is currently underway on a 53,800-square-foot hangar at Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). Once completed, the company states this will be the first dedicated general aviation hangar facility in Spain capable of accommodating aircraft up to the size of a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ).

The network is also growing its presence in the Middle East. The company recently commenced operations at a new General Aviation Terminal and FBO in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and has outlined plans for further expansion in Jeddah and Riyadh. The planned Jeddah facility will encompass 108,000 square feet of private aviation hangar and ground handling space. Facility upgrades are also progressing in Milan, Paris, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, where the company recently opened a new FBO in Samaná.

A legacy in business aviation ground support

Rooted in more than 65 years of business aviation experience, the network provides ground handling, supervisory agents, and VIP agents for business aircraft operators and corporate flight departments worldwide. Despite the comprehensive rebranding and global expansion, the company remains privately owned and led by the Evans family.

The physical and digital transition to the Affinity Aviation name will take place gradually. Throughout 2027, operators utilizing the network’s global locations will see the new branding replace the legacy Universal Aviation identity across all touchpoints.

AirPro News analysis

The rebranding of a legacy ground support network like Universal Aviation highlights the increasing professionalization and premium positioning required in the modern FBO market. As business aviation traffic normalizes following post-pandemic peaks, ground handling providers are competing heavily on infrastructure quality and global consistency rather than just geographic convenience. The concurrent investments in large-scale hangar facilities in Madrid and Guadalajara demonstrate a strategic focus on accommodating ultra-long-range business jets and VIP airliners, which require specialized ground support and significant hangar space.

Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 First Production Unit Rolls Out

Textron Aviation Inc. rolled out the first production unit of the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 light jet at its Wichita, Kansas, facility on October 20, 2026, advancing the aircraft toward its anticipated 2027 entry into service.

The rollout marks the transition of the CJ4 Gen3 from design and testing into active manufacturing. According to a company press release, the aircraft is positioned to be the first light jet to market featuring the Garmin Emergency Autoland system as standard equipment, alongside the new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics suite.

Manufacturing and flight test progress

The completion of the first production unit represents a critical step in the certification pathway for the CJ4 Gen3. Eric Cardinali, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Textron Aviation, stated in the press release that the rollout is a visible result of the precision and teamwork required to move an aircraft from design intent to a production-ready airplane.

“For our manufacturing teams, it represents the disciplined execution behind every milestone — translating customer-driven innovation into a high-quality aircraft built to perform. I’m proud of the craftsmanship and collaboration that brought the first Citation CJ4 Gen3 production unit to this point.”

While the production line activates, the flight test program continues to mature. On October 19, 2026, Aviation Week reported that the combined Gen3 programs, which include the CJ4, CJ3, and M2 variants, had accumulated more than 1,220 flight test hours. The CJ4 Gen3 alone has logged nearly 1,100 hours across two test articles, according to reporting by FLYING Magazine. Recent testing activities have focused on hot weather performance and electrical system certification.

Avionics and performance specifications

A central feature of the CJ4 Gen3 is the integration of the Garmin Emergency Autoland system. The system is designed to automatically take control of the aircraft if the pilot becomes incapacitated. Once activated, it identifies a suitable airport, guides the aircraft through the approach and landing phases, and brings the jet to a complete stop on the runway. Textron Aviation noted that this system has been undergoing rigorous testing ahead of certification.

The flight deck is equipped with Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics. This suite utilizes intuitive touchscreen technology and streamlined controls designed to simplify pilot workflow, a critical factor for an aircraft certified for single-pilot operations.

Performance specifications for the CJ4 Gen3 remain consistent with the aircraft’s established role at the top of the Private jets segment. The manufacturer lists a maximum range of 2,165 nautical miles and a maximum cruise speed of 451 knots true airspeed (ktas). The aircraft offers a maximum seating capacity for 11 occupants and a useful load of 6,930 pounds.

Citation CJ4 program history

The Cessna Citation CJ4 is the largest aircraft in the Citation light jet family. Since its introduction in 2010, the type has been utilized for corporate transport as well as specialized missions including air ambulance, maritime patrol, search and rescue, and aerial survey operations. Textron Aviation, a Textron Inc. company, celebrated the rollout of the 500th CJ4 series aircraft on June 1, 2026.

The Gen3 iteration was formally unveiled at the National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) on October 21, 2024. During the event, Textron Aviation announced Ryan Samples as the launch customer for the new variant.

Initial projections from the 2024 announcement targeted a 2026 entry into service. Current reporting from aviation trade publications indicates that FAA certification and entry into service are now expected in 2027.

AirPro News analysis

The integration of Garmin Emergency Autoland as standard equipment on the CJ4 Gen3 represents a significant shift in the baseline safety expectations for single-pilot light jets. While the technology has been available on turboprops and very light jets, bringing it to the top end of the light jet market places pressure on competing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to offer similar autonomous safety nets. For corporate flight departments and owner-operators, the system mitigates the primary risk associated with single-pilot operations: pilot incapacitation.

The adjustment of the entry into service timeline from 2026 to 2027 aligns with broader industry trends regarding certification. The FAA has applied increasingly rigorous scrutiny to new avionics suites and automated flight control systems in recent years. Accumulating nearly 1,100 flight hours on the CJ4 Gen3 test articles demonstrates the extensive validation required to certify these advanced systems before customer deliveries can begin.

Civil Air Patrol Orders 21 Cessna Aircraft From Textron Aviation

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has ordered 21 new Cessna piston aircraft from Textron Aviation Inc. to support its nationwide emergency response, flight training, and community missions. Announced in a press release on October 21, 2026, the acquisition expands the organization’s powered flight capabilities, with deliveries scheduled for completion in 2027.

Expanding the powered fleet

The new order comprises seven Cessna Skyhawk 172s, 11 Cessna Skylane 182s, two Cessna Turbo Skylane T182Ts, and one Cessna Turbo Stationair HD 206. Textron Aviation, a Textron Inc. company, will assemble the aircraft at its facility in Independence, Kansas.

CAP serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Department of the Air Force and is the world’s largest operator of Cessna aircraft. The organization utilizes the Skyhawk, Skylane, and Stationair models for cadet orientation flights, flight training, aerial photography, search and rescue operations, and personnel transportation.

Major General Regena Aye, National Commander and CEO of the Civil Air Patrol, stated that the longstanding relationship with Textron Aviation provides members with the reliable aircraft required to serve communities across the nation.

“These Cessna aircraft help ensure our members are ready when communities need us, whether searching for someone who is missing, responding after a disaster, or introducing young people to aviation,” Aye said.

Operational scale and federal investment

The Civil Air Patrol operates from 1,424 locations across the United States, maintaining a current fleet of 543 single-engine aircraft. The organization relies on a volunteer force of 72,000 members, which includes 35,000 adults and 37,000 youth participants.

The fleet maintains a high operational tempo. Since October 2024, CAP has logged approximately 200,000 flight hours and completed 860 search and rescue missions, resulting in 104 lives saved. Since the organization began tracking in 1967, it has recorded approximately 5,000 lives saved.

In early 2026, CAP reported providing an estimated $334 million in operational value based on a $73.5 million federal investment during the prior year.

Bob Gibbs, Vice President of Defense & Special Mission Sales at Textron Aviation, highlighted the organization’s efficiency. “Civil Air Patrol has a remarkable ability to turn flight hours into real impact for communities across the country,” Gibbs said, adding that the missions demand capable and dependable aircraft.

Strategic shift and market context

The October 2026 agreement represents a consistent, phased fleet replacement strategy. It follows a previous order placed on December 15, 2025, for 15 Cessna piston aircraft, which included seven Skyhawk 172s and eight Skylane 182s scheduled for delivery throughout 2026.

This continued investment in piston aircraft aligns with a strategic shift within the organization. In 2025, CAP made the decision to discontinue its national glider program. This move allowed the organization to direct more resources toward its powered flight operations, standardizing training and operational protocols around the Cessna fleet.

For manufacturers like Textron Aviation, large institutional operators provide critical production stability. Organizations with specific mission requirements and predictable fleet replacement cycles help balance the often uneven discretionary demand from individual aircraft owners and commercial flight schools.

AirPro News analysis

The Civil Air Patrol’s back-to-back orders in late 2025 and late 2026 illustrate the value of institutional fleet operators to general aviation manufacturers. Textron Aviation gains a predictable production baseline for its Independence facility through these combined 36 aircraft orders over two years. We view CAP’s decision to sunset its glider program in 2025 to focus on powered flight as a prioritization of versatile assets. A Cessna Skyhawk 172 or Skylane 182 can transition seamlessly from a morning cadet training flight to an afternoon disaster response mission, maximizing the utility of the federal funding the organization receives.

Infrastructure and operational capacity

The new campus encompasses more than 300,000 square feet of dedicated infrastructure. At the center of the development is a 17,069-square-foot exclusive-use private jets terminal. The exterior features over 250,000 square feet of preferred ramp space, which is capable of accommodating approximately 25 aircraft simultaneously.

The facility includes two hangars, with one dedicated to NetJets operations and the other to EJM, a NetJets subsidiary specializing in aircraft management and private jet charter. To support fleet reliability in the western United States, the campus houses a Service Hub maintenance facility operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This hub is designed to perform proactive maintenance and reduce aircraft downtime.

A key operational feature of the new terminal is a direct Air Operations Area (AOA) access gate. This allows passengers to move directly between their ground vehicles and their aircraft without encountering commercial airport traffic.

“Together with NetJets, we are proud to open a luxury facility that reflects the future of private aviation, focused on seamless operations and an exceptional guest experience,” said Tony Lefebvre, Chief Executive Officer of Signature Aviation.

Surging demand in the Las Vegas market

The October 20, 2026 opening follows a groundbreaking in October 2024 and comes in response to sustained growth in business aviation traffic to Nevada. NetJets recorded approximately 8,000 flights to Las Vegas from 2022 through the end of 2025.

Demand has continued to accelerate into the current year. The company reported a 30 percent year-over-year increase in NetJets demand for Las Vegas in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Patrick Gallagher, President of NetJets Aviation, attributed the growth to the city’s position as a global destination for premier sporting events, world-class entertainment, and luxury hospitality.

“NetJets Owners increasingly seek effortless access to these experiences, and the new facility ensures they receive the personalized, anticipatory service that defines travel with NetJets,” Gallagher said.

Broader network and fleet expansion

The Las Vegas project is part of a wider strategy by NetJets to expand its network of exclusive-use private terminals across the United States. Originally incorporated in 1964 as Executive Jet Airways, the Berkshire Hathaway company operates the largest private jet fleet globally, offering fractional ownership, lease options, and jet cards. NetJets currently has new or expanded facilities in development at Dallas Love Field (DAL), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Rifle Garfield County Airport (RIL) in Colorado, and Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT) in West Palm Beach, Florida.

To support this ground infrastructure growth, NetJets is also expanding and upgrading its aircraft portfolio. The operator expects to take delivery of over 80 new aircraft directly from manufacturers throughout 2026. Concurrently, the company is installing Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi across 600 aircraft, a project scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The joint venture aligns with broader trends in the business aviation sector, which has seen sustained growth in leisure destinations following the pandemic. Fixed-base operator (FBO) networks have consolidated and expanded to meet this demand. Signature Aviation, which operates the largest network of private aviation terminals globally and serves as the largest distributor of sustainable aviation fuel in business aviation, has doubled its footprint to over 200 locations across 27 countries over the past 15 years. Executive Jet Management, which shares the new Las Vegas campus, brings nearly 50 years of aircraft management and charter expertise to the expanded operation.
