The flights, conducted at Acadiana Regional Airport (KARA) in New Iberia, Louisiana, showcased the aircraft’s ability to perform elevated deck landings and precision cargo operations without an onboard crew.

In a press release issued on September 8, 2026, the company detailed the operational readiness of the remotely piloted variant of the widely produced Robinson R44 helicopter. The demonstrations were hosted by the Aviation Academy of Louisiana (AAL) and included participation from PHI Aviation and Rotor Technologies, highlighting a collaborative push to integrate uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) into demanding maritime supply chains.

Demonstrating offshore logistics capabilities

The R44 AIRTRUCK performed a series of maneuvers designed to replicate the challenging environments of offshore oil and gas platforms. France Orders Four Airbus U050 Capa-X Drone Systems

France’s DMAé orders four Airbus U050 Capa-X UAS for the French Navy and Army, with deliveries scheduled for 2027.

The French Aeronautical Maintenance Directorate (DMAé) has ordered four additional Airbus U050 Capa-X Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) to equip the French Navy and French Army, with deliveries scheduled for 2027.

Announced by Airbus Helicopters on September 10, 2026, the procurement marks the official entry of the U050 Capa-X into its operational phase. The order falls under the French Armed Forces’ Light Tactical Drone System (SDTL) evaluation programme and follows a comprehensive land and sea evaluation campaign conducted throughout 2025 and early 2026.

System distribution and technical specifications

The newly ordered systems comprise a total of eight aircraft, with two drones allocated per system. The French Navy (Marine Nationale) will receive two complete systems, while the remaining two are designated for the French Army (Armée de Terre).

The U050 Capa-X is designed for tactical flexibility and rapid deployment. The 120-kilogram aircraft features a maximum payload capacity of 20 kilograms. According to Airbus, the drone offers a maximum operational range of 100 kilometers from its ground control station via a direct data link. The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has formally initiated its search for a carrier-capable autonomous combat drone, issuing a Request for Information on August 31, 2026, that demands a first flight within 24 months of a contract award.

The solicitation, published on the U.S. government contracting site SAM.gov on behalf of the Future Advanced Capability Program Management Office (PMA-228), outlines requirements for the Navy Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) Increment 1 Prototype Project. The Navy is seeking industry capability statements to deliver two fully functional prototype air vehicles capable of operating from Nimitz-class and Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear aircraft carriers (CVNs).

Rapid acquisition and technical specifications

The RFI establishes an aggressive development schedule for the CCA program. NAVAIR requires the selected contractor to achieve first flight of the prototype within 24 months of the agreement award. The aircraft must also reach shore-based carrier certification within three years.

FAA Completes First Remotely Piloted eVTOL Cargo Flight

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in partnership with Elroy Air and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), announced the completion of the first remotely piloted hybrid-electric cargo demonstration flight under the agency’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) on August 31, 2026.

Conducted at Houma-Terrebonne Airport (HUM) in Houma, Louisiana, the test utilized the Elroy Air Chaparral, a highly automated hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. According to the FAA press release, the demonstration is designed to provide operational data to identify regulatory gaps, refine procedures, and support the safe integration of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft into the National Airspace System.

Expanding autonomous cargo delivery capabilities

The Houma demonstration marks a specific milestone for the eIPP by focusing on uncrewed, remotely piloted operations for logistics. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford stated that the collaboration with LADOTD yields data necessary to transition AAM concepts from trial phases to active deployment.

The eVTOL Integration Pilot Program timeline
