The Delivery marks a critical industrial milestone in the company’s effort to convert the Avions de Transport Régional (ATR) 72-600 regional turboprop into a high-capacity water scooper capable of replacing the out-of-production Canadair CL-415.
In an official statement, Positive Aviation confirmed the transfer of the 1.2-metric-ton float from the Manufacturing facility of naval composite specialist Multiplast in Vannes, France, to the Airbus Technocentre in Nantes. The component will undergo initial assembly in Nantes before final integration onto the ATR 72 airframe at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS). The project aims to address a growing global shortage of purpose-built aerial firefighting assets.
Engineering the FF72 scooping system
The FF72 program centers on modifying an existing ATR 72-600 airframe rather than designing a clean-sheet aircraft. Positive Aviation Chief Executive Officer Laurent Schmitt noted that building a new Canadair equivalent from scratch presents a colossal challenge, driving the strategy to adapt the proven ATR 72 platform for amphibious operations.
The newly delivered floats are designed to withstand immense hydrodynamic forces. During operation, the FF72 will scoop water at speeds of 180 km/h, filling its 8-metric-ton (2,100-gallon) tanks in just 12 seconds. To achieve this, Positive Aviation partnered with Multiplast, a firm known for constructing high-performance racing yachts. Schmitt highlighted that the collaboration merges aeronautical precision with naval expertise in composite materials, ensuring the floats can endure the stresses of high-speed aquatic environments. The successful delivery of the first float was managed jointly by Elyssa Bejaoui of Positive Aviation and Maeg Lehoux of Multiplast.
Commercial backing and development timeline
The FF72 development is supported by an €8 million fundraising round completed on June 30, 2025, which financed the creation of the FF72-X1 demonstrator. The program has also secured early commercial interest from North-America operators. On March 25, 2025, Bridger Aerospace Group Holdings, Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to become the launch customer, committing to 10 aircraft with options for 10 more. Bridger Aerospace Chief Executive Officer Sam Davis stated that the FF72 will be a valuable addition to their fleet amid increasing global demand for year-round aerial firefighting resources.
With the first float now in the assembly phase, Positive Aviation is targeting early 2027 for the commencement of the flight and water test campaign. The company plans to present the FF72-X1 demonstrator at the Paris Air Show in June 2027. Regulatory certification is targeted for 2028, with entry into service and initial deliveries to Bridger Aerospace projected for the 2029 wildfire season.

Tata Elxsi and Sarla Aviation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 1, 2026, to co-develop “Shunya,” a seven-seat electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft positioned as India’s first indigenous air taxi.
Announced in a joint press release from the companies’ Bengaluru headquarters, the Partnerships pairs Sarla Aviation’s aircraft design with Tata Elxsi’s aerospace engineering and certification expertise. The collaboration aims to achieve a first flight for the Shunya aircraft within 18 to 24 months, aligning with Indian government targets for advanced air mobility operations.
Engineering and certification pathway
Building a clean-sheet passenger aircraft requires extensive systems integration and regulatory compliance. Under the MoU, Tata Elxsi will provide engineering support across Avionics, Software integration, and the certification process.
Sarla Aviation Co-Founder & CEO Adrian Schmidt highlighted the necessity of established aerospace partnerships for the Startups, which was founded in October 2023.

Aircraft specifications and flight testing
The Shunya aircraft is designed to carry six passengers and one pilot, with a projected flight range exceeding 300 kilometers. The platform is intended to serve urban logistics, air ambulance services, and defense applications in addition to passenger transport.
Sarla Aviation has already completed a flight test campaign for its initial technology demonstrator, designated Sylla 1.0. The 700-kilogram class eVTOL logged over 500 tests and 18 hours of flight time. The company is currently developing the Sylla 2.0 demonstrator to test controlled transitions between vertical lift and wing-borne forward flight before finalizing the full-scale Shunya design.
Jayaraj Rajapandian, Head of Aerospace at Tata Elxsi, described the project as a milestone for domestic aerospace capabilities.

The development of Shunya coincides with increased governmental support for Electric-Aviation in India. JetZero Closes $100M Loan to Fund Jet1 Demonstrator Build
JetZero secured a $100M term loan from Pinegrove and Silicon Valley Bank to advance its Jet1 BWB demonstrator toward a Q4 2027 first flight.

On August 31, 2026, blended-wing-body developer JetZero closed a senior secured term loan facility of up to $100 million to fund its transition from subscale flight testing to full-scale manufacturing. The capital injection will accelerate the construction of the Jet1 demonstrator aircraft and finance tooling at the company’s new production campus in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In a press release issued by the company, JetZero confirmed the financing was secured through Pinegrove Credit Partners and Silicon Valley Bank, a division of First-Citizens Bank. The funding arrives as the Long Beach, California-based manufacturer advances the build of its Jet1 demonstrator, which reached 40 percent completion in June 2026 at the Mojave, California, facility of Scaled Composites, a Northrop Grumman company.
Financing the transition to production
The $100 million facility is structured to support specific program milestones as JetZero moves toward the scheduled Q4 2027 first-flight of the Jet1 demonstrator. Pinegrove Credit Partners, backed by Brookfield and HRTG Partners, indicated that the financing framework could grow as the aircraft development program advances.
“JetZero is moving from demonstration to production, and that transition is where capital structure matters most,” said Craig Caukin, Partner at Pinegrove. “We structured this facility around the program’s real milestones.
