AirPro Atlas Data Sources

Last updated: 5 October 2026
AirPro Atlas brings together open data from the sources below. We thank everyone who builds and maintains them.
Airports. OurAirports (public domain). Every airport is checked against Wikidata (CC0): same code, same place, still open. Airports Wikidata can’t confirm are left out until it can. The list is refreshed every week.
Map. Map tiles by OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles, map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Country outlines for the offline globe: Natural Earth (public domain). The map credits sit in the bottom-left corner of the globe; once you move the globe they fold into the (i) button.
Weather. METAR and TAF reports from the NOAA Aviation Weather Center (public US government data), refreshed every 10 minutes when you open an airport. The “Weather now” colours (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR) come from the latest METAR of each airport, refreshed every 15 minutes.
Local time. Each airport’s time zone comes from the time zone boundaries of timezone-boundary-builder, data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The list of airport time zones we derive from it (airports-tz.json, published with the plugin) is also made available under the ODbL 1.0.
Day and night. Worked out in your browser from the clock and the position of the Sun.
Airlines. Names, codes, callsigns and hubs from Wikidata (CC0). An airline appears on the Atlas only while aircraft flying with its ICAO code were seen in the last 30 days by the receivers of ADSB.lol, a community network of ADS-B receivers. Flight data © ADSB.lol contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The list of airline codes seen flying that we derive from it (airlines-activity.json, published with the plugin) is also made available under the ODbL 1.0.
Airline alliances. Membership comes from each alliance’s own member list: Star Alliance, oneworld and SkyTeam.
Passengers and aviation museums. Annual passenger figures (the latest full year from 2023) and aviation museums come from Wikidata (CC0), checked automatically; airports or museums without published figures or a clear location are left out.
Launches and launch pads. Launch Library 2 by The Space Devs, refreshed every hour; launches of the last 12 months per pad are updated every week. Launch times change often: check the provider’s webcast for the latest.
Industry sites. Aircraft and engine plants and aircraft storage sites are compiled by AirPro News from the operators’ and manufacturers’ own published information; each site links to its sources and shows the date we last checked them. Sites are placed on their airfield (position from OurAirports) or, when no source names the airfield, at the position published on Wikidata (CC0). Descriptions are our own.
FAA repair stations. The FAA’s list of certificated repair stations (14 CFR Part 145), from the FAA (public US government data). Each station is shown in its town with its company name, FAA certificate number, ratings, classes and bilateral agreements; contact names, phone numbers and e-mails are not shown. Towns are placed at an airfield of that town (OurAirports, public domain) or at the town’s position on Wikidata (CC0); stations whose town can’t be found are left out. For a station’s details, use the FAA’s facility search.
FAA pilot and maintenance schools. The FAA’s lists of certificated pilot schools (14 CFR Part 141) and aviation maintenance technician schools (14 CFR Part 147), from the FAA (public US government data). Each school is shown in its town with its name and FAA certificate number; contact names, phone numbers and e-mails are not shown. Towns are placed the same way as the repair stations; schools whose town can’t be found are left out.
AirPro News coverage. Articles are linked to an airport, an airline or an aircraft plant or storage site automatically when their headline or opening paragraph names it. Events come from our Aviation & Aerospace Events Calendar.
