Mobix Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: MOBX) has secured its initial production order to supply Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) filtered connectors for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, expanding the manufacturers component footprint across major United States military aircraft programs.

Announced in a September 08, 2026, press release, the contract was awarded in partnership with an unnamed veteran-owned U.S. aerospace sustainment contractor. Initial shipments of the components, which are manufactured at the company’s military-approved EMI Solutions facility in Irvine, California, have already been delivered. The balance of the order is scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks.

Expanding defense platform integration

The F-16 Fighting Falcon order adds to Mobix Labs’ existing portfolio of defense contracts. The company already supplies components for several other U.S. fighter aircraft, including the F-22 Raptor, the F-35 Lightning II, and the F/A-18 Super Hornet.

“We have already demonstrated the ability to expand our business supporting the F-22, and now we are adding production supporting another of America’s most important fighter platforms,”

Phil Sansone, Chief Executive Officer of Mobix Labs, stated in the release. He added that the components are manufactured domestically for mission-critical defense applications and described the F-16 contract as an important expansion of the company’s position across major military programs.

Recent aerospace and defense growth

The F-16 contract follows a series of recent aerospace and defense orders for the Irvine-based manufacturer. On April 02, 2026, Mobix Labs announced a five-fold increase in component orders supporting the F-22 Raptor program, securing increased volume from two subcontractors.

Beyond military fighter platforms, the company has also expanded its commercial aviation and uncrewed systems footprint. On September 03, 2026, Mobix Labs disclosed a repeat production order for approximately 1,500 mission-critical components for Gulfstream aircraft. Italian Air Force Orders Two More MQ-9A Block 5 Reapers

Italy orders two MQ-9A Block 5 Reaper drones under a $738M FMS deal, with deliveries scheduled for late 2027.

The Italian Air Forces (ItAF) will expand its uncrewed fleet with the acquisition of two additional MQ-9A Block 5 Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) and associated Ground Control Stations (GCS) from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). The manufacturer announced the order in a September 8, 2026, press release, noting that deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2027.

The procurement falls under a broader Foreign Military Sale (FMS) approved by the U.S. State Department and announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on August 15, 2024. That agreement cleared Italy to purchase up to six MQ-9 Block 5 aircraft and related equipment for an estimated $738 million.

Fleet replenishment and procurement strategy

The two newly ordered airframes are reportedly “white tails,” meaning GA-ASI had already manufactured them without a specific customer attached, according to reporting by Aviation Week. This pre-built status aligns with the relatively rapid delivery timeline set for late 2027.

The acquisition arrives as Italy seeks to replenish its drone inventory following recent operational losses. Breaking Defense reported that the Italian Air Force lost an MQ-9 in Libya in 2019, while another was destroyed in March 2026 during an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait.

MQ-9A Block 5 capabilities and modernization

The MQ-9A Block 5 provides significant endurance and payload capacity for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. According to GA-ASI specifications, the aircraft features a maximum endurance of 26 hours and an operating altitude of up to 45,000 feet. The platform supports a total payload capacity of 4,600 pounds, which includes 3,750 pounds of external stores.

Italy has operated GA-ASI equipment for over two decades. The Italian Air Force previously advanced its uncrewed capabilities through a Mid-Life Modernization program, conducting its first flight of an updated MQ-9A Block 5 on November 9, 2023.

In the September 8 press release, GA-ASI President David R. Alexander stated that Italy has utilized the MQ-9A to support a wide range of ISR missions domestically, over the Mediterranean, and in support of NATO operations.

Canada Awards Volatus Aerospace C$25M Tactical ISR Drone Contract

On September 10, 2026, the Government of Canada awarded Volatus Aerospace Inc. a five-year contract to supply up to 5,000 Low-Cost Tactical Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The agreement establishes a procurement pathway valued at up to C$25 million, marking the company’s first direct contract conversion under the national Defence Drone Initiative (DDI).

In a press release issued by the Mirabel, Québec-based company, Volatus confirmed an initial order of 100 tactical ISR systems. The contract includes options for the Canadian government to acquire up to 4,900 additional units over the five-year term to support land forces operations.

Procurement framework and financial details

The contract operates under a government procurement framework that establishes a maximum price of C$5,000 per system. While the total procurement envelope is capped at C$25 million, Volatus Aerospace noted that its specific contracted pricing remains commercially confidential.

The agreement covers an end-to-end solution for the Canadian Armed Forces. Beyond the delivery of the aircraft, the contract includes payloads, ground control stations, data links, training, and sustainment services.

Volatus Aerospace Chief Executive Officer Glen Lynch stated that the contract validates the company’s integrated model, which extends beyond hardware delivery to include technical support and payload integration.

“Canada is seeking sovereign, secure and supportable defence technologies that can be fielded efficiently and scaled as operational requirements evolve,” Lynch said.

The delivery of aircraft tail number CGNR-2018 initiates the station’s transition away from the legacy Alenia C-27J Spartan. Fleet modernization and capabilities

The HC-130J Super Hercules provides a substantial performance increase over the outgoing C-27J fleet. The aircraft operates with a cruise speed of 320 knots and a range of 4,900 nautical miles. Buzzella noted the operational focus of the new fleet during the ceremony. He stated the aircraft will be critical to detecting and interdicting migrant and narcotics flows through the maritime approaches to the United States.
