Runway Numbers
Which way does runway 27 point? What is the other end of 09L? 10 quick questions on real runways.
How to play Runway Numbers
A runway's number is its magnetic heading in tens of degrees, rounded: runway 27 points about 270°, west. The two ends of a runway face opposite ways, so their numbers differ by 18 (09 and 27), and parallel runways add L, C or R, left and right swapping from one end to the other: 09L is 27R.
The game mixes three questions on real runways of the world's busiest airports: which way a runway points, what number is painted at its other end, and which runway you are on for a given heading. You have 15 seconds for each.
Tips
- Add or subtract 18 for the other end, then swap L and R.
- Round the heading to the nearest ten and drop the last digit: 137° is runway 14.
