Distance Guess
Two of the world's busiest airports: how far apart are they? The closer your guess, the more points.
How to play Distance Guess
Each round names two airports. Slide to your estimate of the straight-line distance between them, the great circle that long-haul flights follow, in kilometres or miles. Within 5 % scores a full 100 points; the further off, the fewer points.
After each answer a globe draws the route between the two airports, with an estimate of the flight time. Ten pairs per game, half of them on the same continent, so you need both a sense of the world and of your own region.
Tips
- London to New York is about 5,570 km (3,460 mi): a handy yardstick.
- Routes near the poles look longer on flat maps than they are.
