Sling 2M Debuts on FAA MOSAIC Rule Effective Date
Sling Aircraft North America launched the MOSAIC-compliant Sling 2M with IFR capability and 1,540-lb gross weight at Oshkosh 2026.
Sling Aircraft North America introduced the Sling 2M, a MOSAIC-compliant variant of its NGT trainer featuring a 1,540-pound gross weight and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capability, at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on July 24, 2026. The announcement coincided with the effective date of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) rule, allowing the manufacturer to begin customer deliveries in August 2026.
According to a company press release, the Sling 2M leverages the new 14 CFR Part 22 regulatory framework and updated ASTM International Committee F37 consensus standards. The aircraft offers a useful load exceeding 600 pounds and fuel endurance of more than eight hours, enabling flight schools to accommodate two large adults alongside a whole-airframe parachute system.
Garmin AXIS integration and concurrent engineering
The Sling 2M comes standard with the Garmin AXIS Integrated Flight Display. Garmin Ltd. unveiled the AXIS system on July 8, 2026, and secured FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval on July 23, 2026, just one day prior to the Sling 2M launch. The system consolidates GPS, navigation, communication, and audio panel functions into a single interface.
Sling Aircraft Co-CEO Andrew Pitman stated that the company developed the aircraft in tandem with the drafting of the MOSAIC regulations.
“We didn’t wait for the standards to be published and then start engineering. We sat in the room while they were being written, and every few months we made another incremental change to the NGT — structure, systems, weights, documentation — so that the airplane would already be there when the rule arrived,” Pitman said.
Pitman noted that this concurrent development process allows the manufacturer to ship compliant aircraft immediately rather than facing an 18-month delay following the rule’s implementation.
Sling Safety Network targets flight school operators
Alongside the aircraft, Sling Aircraft North America launched the Sling Safety Network (SSN), designed to support the approximately 20 flight schools currently operating the Sling NGT in North America. The program aims to standardize operations across different training facilities utilizing the same aircraft type.
Sling Aircraft North America Co-CEO Matt Liknaitzky explained that the network provides shared standards, tools, and personnel resources that individual schools might struggle to develop independently.
“Combined with an airplane that now carries more, flies longer, and flies IFR, this is a genuine step change for the training market,” Liknaitzky said.
To facilitate fleet acquisitions, the company also announced new financing and leasing options tailored for flight schools, aiming to remove capital structure limitations for operators upgrading their training fleets.
AirPro News analysis
The immediate rollout of the Sling 2M on the exact day the FAA MOSAIC rule took effect demonstrates a highly aggressive and successful regulatory strategy by Sling Aircraft. By participating directly in the ASTM International Committee F37 drafting process, the manufacturer eliminated the typical lag between regulatory enactment and product availability. We view the integration of the newly certified Garmin AXIS system as a significant value proposition for the primary training market, where payload limitations and avionics complexity have historically constrained Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) utility in IFR environments. The addition of the Sling Safety Network further indicates a shift from merely selling airframes to providing comprehensive fleet management solutions for flight schools.
