Volocopter and Jet Systems Launch eVTOL Services in Paris
The partnership between Volocopter and Jet Systems Hélicoptères Services marks a significant milestone in the evolution of urban air mobility (UAM). As cities worldwide grapple with traffic congestion and environmental concerns, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft are emerging as a sustainable solution. This collaboration aims to introduce eVTOL services in France, starting with Paris, leveraging the expertise of both companies to revolutionize urban transportation.
Volocopter, a German pioneer in eVTOL technology, has been at the forefront of UAM innovation, completing over 2,000 successful test flights. Jet Systems, with its 30 years of experience in helicopter services, brings the infrastructure and operational know-how necessary to support this ambitious venture. Together, they aim to provide safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions that could redefine how people navigate urban spaces.
The agreement includes the delivery of two VoloCity eVTOL aircraft once certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Authority (EASA). This partnership not only highlights the growing acceptance of eVTOL technology but also underscores the importance of collaboration between aviation innovators and established operators to bring futuristic mobility solutions to life.
The collaboration between Volocopter and Jet Systems is a strategic move to integrate eVTOL services into France’s transportation ecosystem. Jet Systems will handle general airline services, including securing ground crew, pilots, and maintenance teams, while Volocopter will provide its expertise in product development, maintenance, pilot training, and its VoloIQ fleet management system. This division of responsibilities ensures a seamless operational framework for the eVTOL services.
Paris, with its established and approved network of eVTOL flight routes and infrastructure, will serve as the launchpad for these services. The partnership plans to expand to France’s southwest and southeast regions, where Jet Systems currently serves up to 15,000 passengers annually via its helicopter routes. This phased approach allows for a gradual integration of eVTOL technology into existing transportation networks, minimizing disruptions and maximizing efficiency.
Andreas Fehring, Managing Director and COO of Volocopter, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Jet Systems and secure eVTOL operations in Paris, where we have invested our efforts for many years. With 75% of our EASA audits completed, Volocopter is close to and committed to achieving VoloCity’s EASA certification as soon as possible.”
“We are delighted to partner with Volocopter to offer safe, responsible, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions while minimizing the impact on local communities in Paris.” – Michel Moulin, CEO of Jet Systems Hélicoptères Services
